Peaceful Farms

About the Farm

Peaceful Farms, operated by Karen Thom on Hawaiʻi Island's Hāmākua Coast, integrates lychee orchards with livestock as part of a regenerative farming approach. By combining orchard production, animal husbandry, and land stewardship, the farm works toward a more diversified and sustainable agricultural operation.

The Challenge

Managing a diversified farm requires ongoing investment in animal care, fencing, agricultural infrastructure, and production supplies. Maintaining livestock while developing orchard operations creates significant expenses, making it challenging to invest in improvements that support long-term farm productivity.

How Mālama Da Farmer Grant Helped

Through the Mālama Da Farmer Grant, Peaceful Farms received support for essential production supplies, including livestock feed, fencing materials, supplies for a livestock medical barn, and greenhouse-related materials. Funding also supported seeds, açaí palms, and agricultural tools used in daily farm operations.

Impact

These investments helped Peaceful Farms meet ongoing livestock care needs while supporting improvements to its agricultural infrastructure and diversified production. By reducing the financial burden of essential farm supplies, the grant provided resources for Karen to continue developing her farm and strengthening its long-term sustainability.
