About Mālama Da Farmer Community Projects
Every farmer deserves a community that invests in their journey.
Through Mālama Da Farmer, The Food Basket brings together farmers, funders, educators, and local businesses to turn farm needs into projects that strengthen agriculture on Hawaiʻi Island.
A Greenhouse Made Possible Together
This greenhouse at Muddy Boots Produce grew from a shared commitment to supporting the farmers who feed Hawaiʻi Island.
A grant from the Kirk-Landry Charitable Fund, connected through Rebecca Choi at CU Hawaiʻi, helped make the project possible. Jason Ueki played an instrumental role in developing the concept and connecting with Lew Nakamura. Hawaiʻi Good Food Alliance funded the concrete, Island Wide Concrete Pumping donated pumping services, and Hawaiʻi Community College students built the greenhouse under Lew’s guidance as their final school project. The Food Basket’s Mālama Da Farmer program coordinated the logistics, bringing these contributions together.
