We are currently hiring for:
Job Title: Accountant, Grant Management Accountant
Company Summary: The Food Basket, Inc. is Hawai’i Island’s Food Bank – a 501c3 nonprofit based on the Hawai`i Island with programs throughout the state. The administrative office is located in Hilo.
Compensation: $50,000 - $65,000 per year, depending on qualifications
Status: Full-time, exempt
Position Start Date: Immediately
Position Reports To: Executive Director and Director of Finance
General Job Duties: Nonprofit accountant for a food bank. Grant management, fund accounting, capital project accounting
Education Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in business or accounting, college transcripts required
Preferred Experience: at least one year in nonprofit accounting
Duties and Responsibilities
Grant management – ensuring that funds are accounted for and expended per grant or contract agreement and all reporting and other requirements are met
Capital project – the organization is developing an Agriculture Innovation Park and Food Systems Campus; this position will post transactions and track funds related to the project
Accounts payable, staff credit card transaction postings and reconciliations, payroll processing, posting journal entries – this position has a fairly heavy clerical workload due to the small size of the organization
Assist in preparation of financial statements, budget vs actual, by grant and program as well as organization-wide
Assist in program budget and organization-wide budget preparation
Assist with annual audit – preparing reports and retrieving source documents for auditors
Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of GAAP
Knowledge of fund accounting and accounting practices relevant to nonprofit accounting
Proficiency with Excel, familiarity with MS Word, Outlook, and QuickBooks Desktop
Highly accurate with attention to detail
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Familiarity with food systems
